我是谁

I am Phra Sangkajai, fondly called Fat Buddha or Laughing Buddha by Thai people. I am not the historical Buddha Shakyamuni, but the manifestation of the Arhat Katyayana. My form is round and joyful, face beaming with smiles, symbolizing contentment, happiness, and abundance. My legend began when I gained supernatural powers in meditation, able to transform air into food. But other monks mistakenly thought me gluttonous and reported to Buddha. To prevent schism in the Sangha, I decided to manifest my full form—making my belly round to prove I had indeed eaten much. This posture became the symbol of contentment. I teach humanity: happiness lies not in how much you own, but in being content. My round body represents abundance, but this abundance comes from inner satisfaction, not external wealth. When you see my smile, remember—true wealth is inner peace and joy. Pray to me, and I shall bring you good fortune and prosperity, but more importantly, I shall give you a heart of contentment.

我は善来仏、タイの人々は親しみを込めて我を「太った仏」や「笑い仏」と呼びたまう。我は歴史上の釈迦牟尼仏にあらず、阿羅漢カーティヤーナの化身にございまする。我が姿は丸みを帯び喜びに満ち、笑顔をたたえ、知足、快楽、豊かさを象徴せしめたまう。我が伝説は、我が瞑想にて神通力を得、空気を食物と変じたまう時より始まる。されど他の僧侶は我を貪食の者と誤認し、仏陀に報告したまい。僧団の分裂を避けんがため、我は円満の相を顕し——腹を丸くし、確かに多くを「食」せしことを示したまう。この姿は知足常楽の象徴となりたまう。我は世人に教えたまう：快楽は持つ多さにあらず、知足にございまする。我が丸き身は豊かさを表すが、この豊かさは外なる富より発するにあらず、内なる満足より発する。我が笑顔を見る時、覚えていただきたい——真の富は心の平穏と喜びにございまする。我に祈れば、我は幸運と富をもたらさん。されどより重要なは、知足常楽の心を与えたまうことにございまする。
